There is something very magical about holidaying near water.  And if you are stay at M1 Resort you will be spoilt for choice as there are magnificent beaches, inlets and of course a resort lap pool to swim in.  But if sand isn’t your thing, or you are feeling a little adventurous, then why not go further afield and enjoy some glorious Sunshine Coast waterfalls?

We’ve put together a list of some that are not that far to get to and that we are sure you will enjoy. You could make a day trip of it.  Pack a picnic, enjoy the beauty of the hinterland and then maybe take a dip.

Oh and don’t forget to take your camera!

1 - Buderim Falls

Location: just over 9 kms (20 mins) from Maroochydore

Buderim Falls are part of the Buderim Forest Waterfall walk. They are part of a 45 hectare, quick secluded reserve located less that a kilometre from Buderim Village. You’ll experience a luscious rainforest with tall trees, tree ferns, lots of birdlife and of course the beautiful Buderim Falls. There is a walking trail to the falls that is accessible from two entry points. The lower entry is off Lindsay Road via Harry’s Lane, while the second entry point is via Quorn Close, which runs off Lindsay Road at the top of Buderim.

2 - Kondalilla Falls

Location: approx. 30 kms (40 mins) from Maroochydore

Take a cooling dip in the rock pools at either the top or bottom of Kondallila Falls. The Kondalilla National Park is near the picturesque village of Montville in the scenic Blackall Range and there are several walking trails available for hikers. The Kondalilla Falls circuit is 4.7 km and will take between 2-3 hours to complete. This walk includes more than 100 steps so it’s quite strenuous, particularly on the way back up! From the Picnic Creek circuit follow the signs down the escarpment and continue past the rock pool onto the lookout with first views of Kondalilla Falls.

3 - Gardner Falls

Location: approx. 38 kilometres (45 mins) from Maroochydore near the town of Maleny.

Gardner Falls is an excellent place for swimming in the freshwater pools AND is family-friendly. You can swim in the big natural swimming pool at Gardner falls, try your skills on a swing rope at the bottom end of the falls or wade across the stream upriver of the falls to try the big rope swing. Located at Maleny, Gardener Falls is only a short walk to the waterfall and there’s a small grassy area where you can have a picnic but get there early as it can get busy.

4 - Wappa Falls

Location: approx. 25 kms (25 mins) from Maroochydore near the town of Yandina

Wappa Falls are relatively unknown.  They are fed by the South Maroochy River coming in from Wappa Dam near the town of Yandina. Wappa Falls is made up of a mix of rock formations and small rock pools.  The water falls into what can be described as a mini gorge complete with a with a beautiful swimming hole.

5 - Baxter Falls

Location: approx. 30 kms (38 mins) Maroochydore

To get to Baxter Falls you have to walk through one of the prettiest sections of the Sunshine Coast Great Walk. Take an enjoyable hike just down to Baxter Falls and back.  Be prepared for a bit of a walk but be rewarded with a refreshing dip when you reach the falls.
